In the past, when traveling or returning from overseas for work or leisure, many people were concerned about the time it took to go through immigration procedures at the airport, sometimes involving waiting in line for up to several minutes. However, since August 15th, instead of passengers having to present their passports for inspection and stamping by customs and immigration officers, they can now complete all procedures through the use of automatic control gates. This is a new digital technology-driven service introduced by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security, contributing to greater convenience for the public.

If you have a Vietnamese passport with a chip, you can go directly to the automatic control gate to complete the immigration procedures following the instructions displayed on the electronic board.

For regular passports, there will be officials available to assist individuals in registering for the automatic immigration service at the airport.

It has been observed at Noi Bai Airport that some individuals with regular non-chip passports have started using this service. Among them are many flight attendants who have opted for this convenience.

Currently, automatic immigration gates are being installed at five international airports, including Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, and Cam Ranh. Mr. Phat was one of the first passengers to proactively use a chip-enabled passport for immigration via the automatic gate service at Tan Son Nhat Airport.

According to the representative of the Immigration Department, Ministry of Public Security, there have been approximately 10,000 registrations for the automatic gate service to date, with foreigners accounting for about 10% of the total. If you wish to avoid long waiting times or congestion in the immigration area, this is an option worth considering.

Major General Nguyen Ba Tuan, Deputy Director of the Immigration Department, Ministry of Public Security, stated: "The immigration procedure is expected to be reduced to 20-30 seconds per passenger. This will bring significant benefits not only to passengers but also to the operational efficiency of airports. Furthermore, it represents one of the pioneering administrative procedure reforms aimed at ensuring shorter processing times for passengers and saving costs for travelers."

Using VNEID for domestic flight procedures.

In addition to international passengers, digital technology has also been used for security procedures in domestic flights. This involves the use of the VNeID application with level 2 identity verification, which integrates personal documents such as national ID cards and driver's licenses. This integration allows the security department to easily verify passengers along with their boarding passes. Therefore, passengers no longer need to worry about carrying physical documents.

Currently, all 22 domestic airports across the country have adopted the use of VNEID level 2 accounts for flight procedures. However, to save time during security checks, passengers should proactively check and have their VneID accounts ready on their phones before entering the security gate.
