The price of pork has dropped significantly, is there a possibility of a reversal?

The nationwide pork market continues to widespread price decreases. Particularly in the Northern region, both household and company pig prices have decreased, causing concerns among many breeders about the possibility of this trend lasting.

In the Northern provinces, except for Bac Giang which maintains its previous price, the rest of the provinces have all decreased by 1,000 Vietnamese dong, now ranging from 60,000 to 61,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram. Notably, C.P Vietnam Company has also reduced the price of pork by an additional 500 Vietnamese dong compared to yesterday, bringing it down to 62,500 Vietnamese dong per kilogram.

The pork market is experiencing a decrease in demand during this season

In Central and Central Highlands regions, the market has decreased by 1,000 Vietnamese dong in Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, and Binh Thuan, reaching 58,000 - 60,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram. This price range is also common for pork in this area. In Đắk Lắk province, it's priced at 57,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, which is the lowest in the region.

Southern region maintains a relatively low price, ranging from 57,000 to 59,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram. An Giang province, however, has decreased by 1,000 Vietnamese dong, now priced at 58,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram.

The average nationwide pork price currently stands at 59,100 Vietnamese dong per kilogram. In the Chinese market, pork prices have stabilized at 55,600 Vietnamese dong per kilogram.

For two consecutive days, the pork market has experienced widespread price decreases. Even the Vietnam Corporation has made two price reduction adjustments. The concern for many breeders now is whether pork prices will continue to decrease or reverse and start increasing again. According to many experts, pork prices are likely to continue to decrease slightly in the near future because today is the 1st day of the 7th lunar month, which in Vietnamese culture is the month of Vu Lan, a time for filial piety and many people switch to a vegetarian diet. This is the reason behind the significant drop in pork consumption during the month of July and consequently, lower prices.

However, if the market maintains a price level above 55,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, then breeders won't face significant losses.

In the Ho Chi Minh City market, the price of pork cuts ranges from 75,000 to 77,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram. The retail prices of pork at various markets have seen a slight decrease, while some supermarkets have increased promotions. Specifically, the common prices for pork cuts are as follows: pork belly at 143,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, tenderloin from 167,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, pork ribs at 103,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, shoulder and thigh at approximately 101,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, and bone-in ham at 113,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram.
