Highlands: Developing Green Tourism

Tieudungthongthai

The trend of tourism development based on the exploitation of cultural values, eco-friendly tourism linked to ecological agriculture in rural areas, is currently attracting the attention of many localities and tourists. Traveling to highland areas nowadays, tourists not only admire the magnificent natural landscapes and breathe fresh air but also have the opportunity to experience the local culture and try their hand at activities like grape and plum picking, adding an exciting dimension to their journey in the Northwest region

Mr. Trung from Hanoi went on a trip to Moc Chau district. Instead of buying souvenirs along the way like he usually does, today he personally picked grapes, tasted them, and bought some to take back home - a very different and enjoyable experience.

The development of community-based tourism integrated with eco-agriculture is the direction that Sơn La province is currently implementing, with the support of preferential funding from the Policy Bank

With the funding sourced from the Social Policy Bank, the ethnic communities in Sơn La province not only invest in fruit orchards but also make use of the favorable terrain and clean climate to establish various eco-tourism models

Three years ago, with a preferential loan of 100 million VND, Mr. Mùa A Nhà embarked on establishing a homestay tourism model with three charming houses. Regular bookings from guests have provided him with a stable source of income. Most guests visit on weekends. Since starting this venture, his family has earned an additional 100 million VND in income per year

Sơn La province currently boasts 30 major tourist attractions and hundreds of homestay tourism models operating under community-based, experiential, and eco-garden tourism concepts, with a special focus on tourism in the reservoir areas of hydroelectric plants. All of these models maximize the use of the available landscapes and the culture of ethnic communities while minimizing their impact on the environment. Developing sustainable green tourism is a new and enduring direction for many highland regions in the Northwest
